The Very Hungry Parsnip by Graham Smallspring

once upon a time there was a parsnip named Parsey. he liked to join all the parsnip races and he could run really fast. but running fast sure builds up an appetite.

Parsey liked to have a good meal. but what do parsnips even eat? with all that running Parsey would need something nutritious.

"i know," said Parsey, "eating mushrooms makes you grow up big and strong." and Parsey was right. mushrooms, as part of a balanced breakfast, give you the energy you need to play in all the parsnip games.

mushrooms are a good source of antioxidants. they also contain lots of potassium which is good for your muscles when you run a lot. and don't forget all those vitamins. wow.

but remember there are friend mushrooms and there are bad mushrooms. how do you know the difference? friend mushrooms come from a reputable store at the market, from a nice mushroom farmer, or an adult can pick them in the forest. mushroom foraging is a fun activity you can have with friends and an experienced adult is necessary to help you learn.

"wow thank you," exclaimed Parsey, "i will always bring a trusted adult when foraging for mushrooms."

grow up big and strong like Parsey by eating nutritious meals. it's okay to have dessert too because self-compassion is important.

the end.
